Garage Sale Treasures

I was reminded that I forgot to put up all of our great garage sale finds, so here they are...

You will note that all of the large items were purchase by Papa Rick. :)

In the first picture, the big blue tub is full of the largest Legos you have ever seen. The bike on top of the tub was also a purchased as was the Hummer behind it. (The rest is just junk in our garage.) We also got a kitchen set, work bench, laugh and learn home, outside swing, Creative Memories cutter and ovals, and 2 strollers. We bought the red one on the first day. It's a Chicco, pretty nice. Then the next day I found a Maclaren which is exactly what I wanted. So now we have both. I also got some clothes and smaller toys but those are all disbursed throughout the house.

Sienna's practicing for the day that she can drive her Hummer.

Lots of great stuff. Definitely a successful year!!

9 Months

Sienna,
This post should really be called wiggles. I think pictures are only going to get more difficult here on out. About a week ago something must have clicked in your head. All of a sudden you started doing all these new tricks. It is so so fun for us to see. My favorite is when you started to say mama. We've been working on that word for months and finally you said it. Sometimes you act like you know that it's me, other times not so much. The next day (and every day since) all you will say is bababa over and over and over again with an occasional mama and/or screech thrown in. You have become quite the chatter box.
You also learned how to wave. Sometimes it's one arm and sometimes it's both but you love to show it off to everyone you see. Here's you waving to Daddy.

Feet are always fun to play with - and eat too.

You don't like laying still for long and want to be on the go. Your Grandma Deb said your version of crawling looks like swimming. I think that sums it up very nicely!

You are starting to grow more in height and hardly in weight. The Dr says it's because you are moving more. It's certainly not that you aren't eating! You love your mealtimes and will eat pretty much everything I give you - except for black beans. We just started you on dairy and meats which of course you gobble up.

Music to my ears

I guess it's the week for videos!

Yesterday was my first day of summer hours at work. This year it came with a bit of bittersweetness. I have to leave so early that I don't get to wake up Sienna and get my few minutes of smiles and cuddles. I was really missing her yesterday. When I got home, Justin was heading out so we did a quick baby exchange and run down of her daily events. He also told me to be sure and watch the video on the camera!

Totally made my day and brought a huge smile to my face. Still does!

Pre-Crawling

Here's Sienna doing her version of crawling. I'm not sure exactly what you'd call this. Something between rolling and army crawling. Whatever it is, she can get where she wants...slowly!

And just because it's cute. Here's a few giggles.

Another Weekend Gone

It was quite the weekend. It started with one of my favorite weekends of the year: The Woodbury Garage Sales!!! This in itself should be it’s own post but I have yet to take pictures of all that we bought. Let’s just say that Papa Rick likes to bargain and Sienna now has a garage and 2 playrooms full of toys. Cari, Rick, Sienna and I went out Thursday. Amanda, Travis, Izzy, and Sami joined us in the madness on Friday. Both days we came home with a full truck. By Saturday we were addicted and hit up the sales in a couple neighborhoods near my house. The rain must’ve kept many away because we were able to get more great deals.

In between all of our shopping, we had lots of play time at home.

On Sunday Sienna was baptized. She worn a gown made by her great great grandma in 1895 on the Rost side of the family. I also wore it when I was baptized. Cran & Brent are her godparents. Sienna did great for the service. She was little fussy right before her big moment, but when the time came she was perfectly behaved.

We had a little reception during coffee hour after church with cake. After, we headed back to our house for some lunch.

The day was really great and it was so nice that all of Sienna’s favorites were able to help us celebrate.

First Asparagus

2 years ago we planted our asparagus seeds. Everyone says the 3rd year you can start eating it. We're at year number 3 so we gave it a go! We had small stalks coming up that were looking like they need to be picked.

We cut a small bunch but enough for us to try.

And the results? Well, some of them were great. Tender and delicious, but a few of them had the consistency of a stick. You could hardly cut it and then when you tried to chew it, it was like eating sugar cane. Very odd. I'm hoping as the season goes on we'll get more tender ones. Still makes me excited since it seems like this state will never give us warm weather to plant anything else. :P

Mother's Day

My only requirement for my first Mother's Day was I wanted to enjoy the day. No laundry, no cleaning, no cooking - just fun times with my family. The day started with Justin getting me Caribou and opening my presents. Sienna is a great little shopper already and got me photography classes so I can really learn how to use our fancy camera. They also got me a lilac garden/hedge (to be installed soon) to represent our growing and blooming family - awwww. So sweet! Lilacs have always been my favorite flower.

Soon after Mom, Ron, Cari & Ariana came over for pastries and coffee. It was a perfect way to start the day with the people I love the most and my favorite breakfast treats.

My only regret for the day is I didn't take enough pictures! Ariana and Sienna had matching outfits on but we forgot to take pictures of just the 2 of them. And I forgot to get one with just me and my baby! Next year I guess...

Later in the afternoon we headed to MOA for a little shopping and dinner. The rest of the evening was spent relaxing at home. I couldn't ask for a better day.

Cooking Club VII

As I said in an earlier post we did a Kentucky Derby themed cooking club complete with southern food and drinks. The ladies went all out and dressed in our derby best.

The evening began with mint juleps (gross) and sweet tea. I think Jeff was the only one to really enjoy his julep. The sweet tea was great though and will be made all summer long at this house.

Appetizers - Hush Puppies, Cheesy Grits topped with Shrimp and Bacon

Both were so good. We tried a dairy free version of the grits and it didn't have a whole lot of flavor without the cheese. But dairy full it was delicious!

Since this was Kentucky Derby themed there had to be some betting and horse racing.

Entrée - Filet Brennan with Collard Greens, Grilled Tomatoes, and Bacon Wrapped Corn on the Cob

The filet was grilled and served with a mushroom red wine sauce. It was melt in your mouth good. The collard greens also turned out really well. Although how could they not when you cook them in ham stock and bacon grease? The corn wasn't as great. It was grilled with the husks on so then the bacon didn't cook at all. In order to crisp the bacon up, they put it right on the grill and then all the bacon fell off. It was a bit of a mess.

Dessert - Mini Chocolate Souffles

OMG good. Might be our best dessert ever. Gluten and dairy free with only substituting the butter. I could eat these regularly.

Another successful night!

Diaper Time

Naked crawling/playing is the best!

Sienna has started her own form of crawling that's a combination of rolling, army crawling, and going backwards. Most of it results in spinning in circles. If she's really motivated she'll go forward and get something but usually she ends up in the opposite direction. Even so, she's getting better, stronger and discovering different movements. We might have a busy baby soon!

Too tired to think of a pithy title

This week has been a bit crazy as Justin has been in Las Vegas for work and I've been home making my best run at being a single mom. It's all gone very well but I haven't had much down time for blogging. Soon to come is cooking club, Kentucky Derby style. To give a little preview here's Sienna and I in our outfits.

Sienna is wearing a dress that I wore as a little girl. I also finally remembered to buy some bows for her hair now that it's long enough to hold them. So cute!
