State Fair Results

I got my scorecard in the mail the other week from my GF Banana Muffin entry. I was quite proud when I saw the results. But if I'm getting a 91 then what did the winner get?? I really wish they would say what place I got and out of how many. And some comments would be helpful too. At least I am on the right track and just might have to try again next year.

Funnies

It's be a rough couple of weeks for my family so I think it's time to post the things that have been making me laugh.

Nothing better than awkward family photos!

Experiment #2

Justin saved the tomato plants that had fallen over last week. He was able to keep about half the plant by cutting off the tops and extra side shoots. He picked most the tomatoes from the cut stems giving us this huge bowl full.

Underneath all of the cherry tomatoes were a lot of green tomatoes. Cran has been telling me you can ripen them indoors by covering them in newspaper and putting them in a cool place. Seemed like this was the time to try the technique.

Tomatoes all wrapped up.

They are currently sitting in my basement. I'll check on them in a few days to see their progress. I sure hope this works! Otherwise I might be needing some good green tomato recipes...

Tomato Trees

Remember my baby tomato plants that I started as seeds in little trays last spring? They can now be called bushes, maybe trees. They've grown taller than the 6 foot fences behind them. Unfortunately with the summer being so cold and having weird weather we've only gotten a couple big tomatoes and a few small bowls of cherries. They are FULL of green tomatoes so hopefully this warm weather stays with us for awhile otherwise we will be trying the ripen indoors.

That picture was was taken a couple nights ago. I came home from work today and Justin told me my plants had fallen over. Turns out they got a little too big and couldn't support themselves. The cherry plant cages are tied up to the fence but the beefy tomatoes were not. Oops! Might have to try that indoor ripening a little sooner than I thought.

On another note check out some of the flowers that we also started indoors. They are huge!!! Looks like that experiment I started last March actually worked...

Loads of Love

Ever since we moved into this house, I have hated our washing machine. Our laundry room is on the main floor of our house and when the washer would run the spin cycle it would get so loud it was hard to have a conversation over it. We have been saying for years that we wanted to upgrade and get front loaders. Finally the time came! We searched high and low for the perfect set. We decided on a Samsung model with the steam feature (good for sanitizing and fluffing stuff up in the dryer). We went and placed our order at Lowes and wouldn't you know it, she had sold the last set earlier that day. Figuring we had waited 4 years for this, I was [kinda] ok with another couple of weeks. The wait was worth it. I have never been more excited to do laundry...and have never had so much to do! We sold our old washer and dryer right after ordering the new ones so the laundry has been stacking up. Plus I also had to wash all the blankets and comforters that I could find to test out the new steam features. Next on the list is pillows! Is it wrong to be so in love with laundry??

Here are my new beauties.

Now before you all ask, no I won't do your laundry if you bring it over but you are welcome to come and test it for yourself! :)

The good, the bad, the ugly

Since life is filled with the good and the bad and my blogs are usually about the good, I suppose it's time for one about the bad. Today is Justin's last day of work at Spalon...and not by choice. Yes, he is joining the millions of other Americans who have gotten laid off due to this rotten economy. There's not much more to say than that; just that I'm sad he has to leave such a fun company and hopes that there are bigger and better things in this future. Someecards.com always knows how to say it best so I will leave you with this!

Silly kitty

Zoey's favorite place to be is in our sunroom. She loves to stretch out on the couch and bask in the sun. Since she is quite the shedder I thought I'd be smart and put a sheet over the half of the couch she lays on. Zoey also like this idea...

Look have a great cozy shelter mom made for me!

Peering from underneath. Oh Zoey...

Zoey has also made a new best friend. She's never been too sure of Mallory before. She's usually pretty tolerant and will let Mal pet her a few times before she goes and hides. This weekend she was loving every second of Mal's attention. She even followed Mal out of the bedroom and down the stairs for more pets.

Best Site Ever?

What do these pictures have in common? They are from my new favorite website out there: peopleofwalmart.com. I apologize to anyone who shops at Walmart and likes it but I cannot stand that place. It makes my physically nauseous to go in there. I have had so many bad experiences and the quality of people that I see there amazes me every time. This website sums it up so nicely. I feel like I could add many of my mental pictures to the site. Check it out!

Dilbert

This made me lol this morning. Maybe hits too close to home... :)

Pics compliments of Dilbert daily strip.

It's baaaack!

Remember restaurant week that I was obsessed about? They've decided to do it again the last week in Sept. Wooo Hooo! The list of restaurants is out and about half of them have menu's already. Can't wait to try a couple more of them!
